Fife Polish Education Trust Launches New Language Programme

FPET launched its "Lets Speak Polish" programme at Greyfriars Primary School in St Andrews.

The projects main aim is to advance the education of children of polish speaking families in Fife and to create opportunities to share Polish culture and language skills with local children and families.

Chair of FPET Violeta Ilendo explained

" The project was awarded £4,490 to deliver extracurricular polish classes for primary school aged children of polish background in one primary school, but given the level of interest, we are hoping to roll it out in three other schools in Fife in 2016/17 depending on funding available"

Fife council leader David Ross said

" I am pleased we are able to support this project in one of our schools. We know that at present there are over 61,000 (1.3% of population) Polish people living and working in Scotland, and the latest research has shown that 12,000 are currently educated in the Scottish schools and nurseries"
