Fife Man Dies In M8 Pile-Up

Wayne Strickland died in the multi-vehicle crash on the M8

An Inverkeithing man has died in an accident on Scotland's busiest motorway.

49-year-old Wayne Strickland was involved in a multi-vehicle pile-up on the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow yesterday morning. He died at the scene.

At around 8.50am, a Peugeot 206, Kia Rio, Mercedes van and an articulated HGV were all involved in the collision, resulting in the motorway being closed in both directions for almost 8 hours.

Mr Strickland's family said: "Wayne was a much loved and respected father, husband, son and brother. A business advisor with West Lothian Council, he was on his way to work from his home in Inverkeithing when the accident happened. Wayne was a devoted husband to Bernadette and much adored father. He was one of life's true gentlemen and he will be sadly missed."

While formal identification has yet to take place, it has been established that Mr Strickland was the owner of the Peugeot 206 and his family have now been informed and offered all the necessary support and assistance they require.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, who have not already spoken to police, to come forward.
