Fife Jobs Funding Boost

Fife Council is one of 16 local authorities to share in a £43 million fund to help more Scots into work.

Investment from European Social Fund (ESF) programme is being allocated to key areas.

£3,866,500 is designed to help people overcome barriers to getting into work including long-term unemployment, following confirmation of Scotland’s share of the first stream of funding released under the Employability Strategic Interventions (SIs) as part of the European Social Fund (ESF) programme for 2014 – 2020.

Councillor Tony Martin, Chair of Opportunites Fife and Fife Council Youth Ambassador said: “We are delighted to receive this funding that will enable us to implement a range of innovative programmes to help local people back into work. The funding over a 3-year period means that we can create programmes to increase employability both for young people and for the longer-term unemployed.”

Councillor Lesley Laird, Fife Council’s Depute Leader and Executive Spokesperson for Economy and Planning said: “Fife Council is already working with a range of partners, including Developing the Young Workforce in Fife Board and Opportunities Fife, a partnership that focuses on employability for people facing challenges accessing work, to tackle unemployment and get people into jobs. This substantial funding is set to reap further positive results and support more Fifers find employment.
