Fife Hospital Raising Money For Garden

Staff are working hard to raise funds

Cameron Hospital are fundraising to build a dementia garden in the grounds.

The money, which was raised through ticket sales, donations and a raffle at a formal ball in Markinch, has already been earmarked for improving garden space at the site and turning it into an area where dementia patients, their relatives and visitors can go.

This year’s cash will also be put towards the construction of the dementia garden, which will include specialised paving to reduce the risk of patients falling, separate quiet areas, spaces for pets to visit, and the presence of nostalgic post and telephone boxes to encourage memory-use and reminiscence. This year’s fundraiser, which is open to staff members and the general public, will be less formal than last year’s Ball and will take place at the Balbirnie Hotel, Markinch, on the 23rd of October. Commenting,

Senior Nurse at Cameron Hospital, Vivienne Davidson, said: “Last year’s Ball was held for two reasons; firstly, to raise money to enrich the lives and experiences of those who are inpatients at the hospital, and secondly to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all the staff who have worked on the Cameron Hospital site, both past and present.

"Last year’s event was a great success and we sold over 100 tickets, this year we are aiming to double the number of tickets sold and raise even more money so that we can build an impressive dementia garden in our grounds that will improve the experiences of dementia patients during their time at Cameron Hospital.”
