Fife 'First In UK' For Bin Trials

Recycling bins will be emptied more often during the trial

Fife Council is among the first in the UK to trial monthly bin collections.

Some households in Markinch and Thornton will have their landfill waste picked up once every 4 weeks, while rubbish at a further 2000 properties across the kingdom will be collected every 3 weeks. Recycling bins will be emptied more often during the 9-month trial.

Households producing medical waste, with children in nappies, or larger families will be able to request bigger blue bins, or in the Thornton and Stenton area more frequent collections.

Fife already boasts above national average recycling rates, and is on track to meet the Scottish Government target of recycling 60% of waste by 2020. But more needs to be done to achieve the 70% recycling target, and maximum 5% sent to landfill, by 2025.
