Fife Council cycling development officer surprised by Sir Chris Hoy

A cycling development officer with Fife Council was surprised recently on a Zoom call by Scottish Olympian Sir Chris Hoy.

Kirsteen Durkin was congratulated on her hard work as part of a campaign celebrating volunteers supporting communities during the coronavirus pandemic.

The National Lottery is honouring local grassroots sports champions.

Kirsteen, who lives in the Kingdom, was redeployed to help run the Burntisland Emergency Action Team

She, the community centre and community council came together to develop an emergency response.

Within a fortnight, she had 60 volunteers ready to help deliver hundreds of meals and food parcels in the local area, as well as collecting and delivering hundreds of prescriptions.

Kirsteen and Sir Chris spoke with Kingdom FM's Anas Hassan in the video above about what she did, how she felt about the surprise and Team GB's prospects in next year's rescheduled Tokyo Olympics.
