It's been revealed £7.9 million of bad debt has been written off by Fife Council.
It includes £1.7 million of unpaid council tax, £1.6 million of unpaid rents (both mainstream and supported), and £2.4 million of unpaid business rates. Nearly £1 million of community charges was written off after legislation passed by the Scottish Government.
In 14 cases, the debt written off is more than £50,000, accounting for £890,000.
Current economic difficulties are being blamed for the increase in the amount of money the council has been unable to collect. Last year, £5.7 million was cancelled.
The level of debt written off by Fife Council is less than 1.5% of the net amount billed.
Members of the Executive Committee will discuss the findings today.
