Fife Could Welcome 140 Refugees

140 refugees could be welcomed to Fife

Fife could be welcoming around 140 refugees 'with open arms', according to councillors.

That number would be accepted over 4 years, in accordance with the UK Governments plans to house around 20,000 over that period. They have been criticised for not offering to accept enough.

Volunteers will meet with council members today to discuss the Kingdom's response to the ongoing migrant crisis.

Chairman of Fife Migrants Forum, Maciej Dokurno, said: "We feel it's our duty as the local charity who support the integration of people from many different backgrounds, to take forward the Fife Welcomes Refugees initiative. It is the role of the national and local government authorities to decide how many refugees will come here and where they may go, but the planing must take place locally now to ensure they are given a warm welcome and get the best possible chance to integrate as seamlessly as possible."
