1,000 safety visors have been initially manufactured at modified engineering labs in Fife College's Glenrothes campus to support the fight against coronavirus.

Health and social care staff working for NHS Fife, as well as Fife Council and NHS Tayside, will receive them in the coming days.

The visors have been made using 3D printers and were produced by a small team which included a college engineering lecturer and an engineering technician.

It comes after the college's recent donation of hundreds of personal protective equipment items to local healthcare providers.

This included aprons, face masks, gloves and hand sanitiser, which were gathered across the college's campuses.

Nicky Inglis is Fife College's Faculty Director for Engineering, Science, Technology and Built Environment and said: "We are proud to play a part in the continued fight against COVID-19 in our region by manufacturing visors at the Glenrothes Campus using our 3D printing equipment.

"The production of visors, and our recent PPE donation, are just a few small ways we have been able to support our valuable front-line health and social care workers as they continue their courageous work to keep us safe and protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

"Their amazing efforts are hugely appreciated by all of us at the College."
