Blindness Charity Celebrates 150 Years With Star Gig

Barbara Dickson was a television staple in the 1980s

A Kirkcaldy charity is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a concert featuring one of Scotland's best-selling female singers.

Barbara Dickson is playing at the Old Kirk in Kirkcaldy on April 30th, in aid of Fife Society for the Blind.

The singer, famous for hits such as ‘Caravan Song’ and ‘January February’, will be in conversation with John Abernethy, looking back at her incredible career and performing a handful of her best known hits.

Dickson was a fixture of television screens during the 1980’s and worked with Rab Noakes and Gerry Rafferty.

Ms Dickson said:

"I am delighted to be coming to Kirkcaldy at the end of the month to both chat and perform but crucially support the Fife Society. I know the impact they make to thousands of Fifers every year and it is always pleasing to help whenever I can.

Coming back to the Kingdom where I was born is always a pleasure and I am really looking forward to the event."

Fife Society Chief Executive Ann Porter said:

‘We are very grateful to Barbara for agreeing to perform in Kirkcaldy. She has been such an active supporter of our work and we are on course for a sell-out show.

In the same year as we look back on our 150 years as a charity - focused supporting people with a sight loss, it is an opportunity to celebrate the work of our team. Our staff and volunteers including Barbara - our Patron - are the lifeblood of our organisation and the key driver of our success.
