Fife Campaign To Warn Of Doorstep Crime

Doorstep scammers often target elderly and vulnerable people

Elderly and vulnerable people in Fife are being offered help to deal with bogus callers.

The police are joining forces with trading standards, the fire service and the NHS to encourage more people to challenge strangers on their doorstep. Criminals often offer goods and services of a poor quality for extortionate prices.

It follows the creation of a 'Cold Call Zone' in Glenrothes earlier this year.

A doorstep crime event is being held at the Lomond Centre on Friday to an invited audience of 100 people.

Sergeant Colin Falconer of Fife Preventions team said: "Every year we see a growing numbers of despicable individuals willing to prey on vulnerable members of our communities.

"We want to support people throughout Fife to see that they can no longer trust everyone who turns up at their door and help them spot the signs of a bogus caller. We are delivering this seminar to raise awareness and provide people with the tools to protect themselves and their neighbours."
