Fife Businesses Teeing Up For Visitor Boost

Over £1m is expected to be spent during Open week

Businesses in St Andrews and Fife are expected to benefit from a million-pound boost to the economy as the Open golf championship begins today.

Shops, cafes, hotels and restaurants are teeing up for an increase in business as an estimated 200,000 people descend on the Kingdom. It is hoped a 'ripple effect' will benefit businesses in the months and years to come. Tourism bosses are hoping Fife will benefit from footage of the event being beamed across the world.

As well as the on course activities, there are events going on in and around St Andrews all week and many businesses are geared up to make the most of the opportunities The Open brings, for example by opening later and providing special offers.
