Female Genital Mutilation Talks

MSPs will pledge to do more to tackle female genital mutilation during a Holyrood debate today.

Today's meeting is aimed at ending the practice which involves removing a woman's external genitalia.

It recently emerged that families from African regions, Asia and the Middle East are being brought to Scotland to undergo the procedure.

Experts say FGM can lead to severe bleeding, infertility and complications during childbirth.

It's estimated 140 million girls and women are living with the consequences.

A helpline was recently set up by the NSPCC for those at risk.
