Family of missing Allan Bryant express their devastation after remains found in Glenrothes are not his

Allan Bryant has been missing for nearly seven years after he was last seen in Glenrothes in November 2013

The family of missing Glenrothes man Allan Bryant say they feel devastated after it was confirmed remains found in the town more than a week ago are not his.

Police confirmed the remains discovered at an industrial estate on Whitehill Road on Sunday 27 September are not of anyone local who has been missing for a long time.

Officers have updated families of long-term missing people in the local area.

Detectives, with support from specialist scientific teams, continue their work to find out the identity of the remains, which was male.

Enquiries are ongoing and work is being done to establish a cause of death.

In a Facebook post, Allan Bryant Senior said the fight for his son will carry on.

He said: "The fight for my missing son Allan will continue.

"We are devasted that remains found on Sunday the 27 of September are not our son Allan's.

"My family will continue to fight for justice for our son no matter what.

"I want to thank the Major Investigation team for their continued support over the last 8 days for keeping my family updated.

"My family need to come to terms with the news.

"We also want to thank you all so much for your continued support through this horrendous week."

Meanwhile, Police Scotland is encouraging anyone with information that might help with its enquiries to contact them.

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Houliston from the force's Major Investigation Team said: "The families of long-term missing people in the local area have been informed that the remains are not those of their loved-ones and officers continue to support them at this difficult time."

"This is a complex and highly intricate investigation and we're working to find out who this is and how they came to be there.

"The death remains unexplained but if anyone has any information that may help our enquiries then please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2692 of Sunday, 27 September, 2020."
