"Everyone's A Human Being" - Return Trip For Fife Refugee Volunteer

Thousands of refugees are escaping war-torn Syria

A Fife volunteer who travelled to Greece to help with the refugee crisis says she saw many difficult things, but has not been put off going back.

Despite picking up a nasty illness after being bitten by a mosquito, Mhairi Smith from Glenrothes stayed on the island of Kos making food and arranging shelter with the Kos Solidarity Project for thousands of stricken Syrian refugees.

Many are arriving in badly made boats, controlled by exploitative smugglers - to an island where there is not enough food or bedding.

She is already planning a second trip, to help with the increasing numbers still arriving in awful weather.

Speaking to Kingdom FM News, Mhairi said the number of people arriving on the island is set to drastically increase:

Mhairi is holding a fundraising event for Kos Solidarity on November 21st, at the Greenside Hotel in Leslie, featuring a number of local bands. She is also looking for local businesses to donate raffle prizes.
