European Funding To Build New Trains

New-build trains bound for Scotland following funding boost.

Scots are set to benefit from brand new trains on the East Coast Main Line, with some of the cash to come from Europe.

The European Investment Bank will lend £235 million to support the building of 65 brand new trains for use on the line that links Scotland with London and other parts of Eastern England.

Thousands of local passengers use the service, which starts in Edinburgh.

Labour MEP, David Martin, is delighted, and says journey times will improve when the new trains are in use from 2018.

He says it's a good example of how Europe can be a positive thing for Scotland.
