Ending Windfarm Subsidies 'Could Affect Scottish Investment'

The UK Government could end onshire windfarm subsidies

A Fife Conservative MSP is hitting out at the Scottish Government over windfarms.

The Scottish Energy Minister, Fergus Ewing, has raised concerns over the UK Government ending financial support for offshore windfarms. He says it could affect a 'pipeline of planned investment' in renewable energy that would benefit Scotland and the rest of the UK. In a letter to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Amber Rudd, he said:

"I welcome the commitment in the Queen’s Speech that there will be consultation with the Devolved Administrations on changes to subsidies for onshore wind farms and I look forward to that consultation. However I am concerned about recent statements coming from your Department relating to proposed changes in support for renewable energy.

“Any lack of clarity has the potential to stall a very substantial pipeline of investment in the UK and Scotland and dent the UK and Scotland’s reputation with developers and investors."

But Scottish Parliament Energy Murdo Fraser says Longannet's closure is an example of the Nationalists' energy policy isn't working:
