Education Gap 'Shrinking' In Fife

The attainment gap in Fife is lower than average

Fife is 'bucking all national trends' when it comes to inequalities in education.

The council has been praised for narrowing the gap between the richest and poorest pupils, while it is widening in other parts of the country.

A focus on numeracy and literacy is responsible, according to education bosses. Around 40% more S5 pupils are passing higher english in Fife compared to last year.

Head of Education, Derek Brown said: "Continuing to raise attainment remains a core priority for Fife Council’s Education and Children Services. We want to build on the significant progress that has already been made, and to further develop a curriculum that meets the needs of all learners – based firmly on the development of employability skills and the key skills of literacy and numeracy.

"This will ensure that young people in Fife continue to benefit from further improvements in attainment future years, which equip them for learning, life and work."
