DWP Attacked Over Mandarin's Memo

'Poorly written, ill-judged and patronising' - that's how a civil service union's describing a memo on independence sent to its members by a Whitehall department.

It was issued yesterday by Department for Work and Pensions permanent Secretary Robert Devereux.

He said it was 'legitimate and necessary' for civil servants to support the UK government's opposition to independence.
