Driving Down Energy Bills

Work is underway to make historic buildings in Cupar more energy efficient.

It's part of a £7 million project which is funded by Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

From early this year, Cupar Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) will be offering advice on ways to:

  • Improve the energy efficiency of traditionally built properties, while maintaining their character
  • Reducing the heating costs of older properties, such as draught proofing and the reinstatement of shutters
  • Offering free energy audits to anyone who lives within the conservation area
  • Organised local events will also be held, with presentations from Historic Scotland aimed at helping homeowners reduce their heating costs in older buildings etc.

As part of the project, Gregor Stewart, CARS Energy Officer, will be available at the County Buildings in Cupar to offer advice and to arrange energy audits.

Gregor said: "To help deliver this service, we are looking for volunteers to work as Energy Champions. This role will be to assist with the audits and provide appropriate information to the owners of the properties.

"Free training will be given through organisations such as Historic Scotland, and will be provided locally to anyone wishing to volunteer."
