Dog Found Tied To A Tree In Fife

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was found tied to a tree in a woodland area of Fife.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Sunday when passers-by discovered the black and white collie cross type dog at the Dean Plantation in Crossford.

The dog is now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre near Edinburgh, where staff have named him Simon.

Inspector Sarah Gregory said, “Simon was found wearing a red collar and tied to a tree by a chain lead.

“The plantation is a popular place for people to walk their dogs so whoever left him there probably knew he would be found eventually. At this point we do not know how long he was tied up for.

“He is an extremely friendly dog and is in very good condition.

“Unfortunately his microchip hasn’t been registered, so we cannot trace the owners. It is really important to register a pet’s microchip and keep the details up to date.

“We are urging anyone with any information to call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999."

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
