Delahey Signs For Flyers

Matt Delahey

Fife Flyers confirm the signing of Canadian defenceman Matt Delahey from Moose Jaw.

The 25 year old, 6’1, left handed, defenceman joins the Flyers after five seasons in the CIS with the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to this Delahey played 20 games in the ECHL with Ontario Reign and 5 seasons with the Regina Pats in the WHL.

Delahey said: “I have heard nothing but positive things about both the Flyers organisation and the fans. I am excited and honoured for the opportunity to be a part of an organisation with such a storied history of hockey in the UK.”

“I am looking forward to putting on the Flyers uniform in the fall and helping lead the team to a winning season.”

Associate Coach Danny Stewart added: “Matt comes to us after 5 seasons at the University of Saskatchewan. He is a gritty, tough stay at home d-man with good size and he is very strong defensively.”

"We will be looking to Matt to improve us defensively at the back end and play important minutes for us.”

“He is an eager first year pro that has a tremendous work ethic and plays for the jersey. He will bring us a lot of character and compete every night. We are excited to have him on the roster.”

“We got a glowing reference from former UK Superleague and Team GB U20’s coach Troy Walkington, who coached in Cardiff during the Superleague days and who coached Matt at the University of Saskatchewan.”
