Defibrillator stolen from Fife school recovered

Police say a defibrillator that was stolen from a Fife school has been recovered.

Officers say that it was removed from Glenrothes High School sometime between last Thursday and Friday.

The device was removed from an external casing for quick access to administer the most effective treatment to anyone who might experience a cardiac arrest.

A number of plant pots were also smashed in the same area.

The defibrillator was recovered after a member of the public contacted police to say they found it discarded in their garden.

It isn't known if the device is salvageable or if another one needs to be purchased, according to the school.

Glenrothes High has thanked people for their help and an investigation is being carried out by Police Scotland.

Inspector Kirk Donnelly of Glenrothes Police Station said: "This type of equipment is often obtained through local community fundraising and there locations carefully chosen so they are available to anyone who may need them to save lives.

"The theft and vandalism of such an important piece of equipment is nothing short of despicable.

"My officers are following a positive line of enquiry but we would appeal to the public for any information about who is responsible for this crime to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0870 of 29 March or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"The defibrillator will be returned to its rightful place and owner following some further police enquiries."
