Council 'Committed' To Levenmouth Link

The Levenmouth rail link closed in 1965

Fife council say it is 'fully committed' to improving transport links to Levenmouth.

Fife council say it's 'fully committed' to improving transport links to Levenmouth.

It comes as they reaffirm their support for the Levenmouth Rail Campaign, which is calling for the 5-mile stretch of track between Thornton and Leven to be reopened.

It was closed in 1965.

The group is waiting for the results of a report which'll determine how viable the reopening would be.

Leacer of Fife Council, Cllr David Ross, said: "LMRC have been a key consultee throughout the STAG process and their input is very much welcomed by Fife Council. We’ve enjoyed a good working relationship with the group and we’re continuing to support them by funding the STAG, providing support for a consultant and providing support via the Local Office.

"This project is about partnership working and ultimately everyone wants the same thing, to re-open the rail link.

"Currently we’re at the stage of undertaking a Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) study. At this stage of the study, the reinstatement of a rail link to Levenmouth is a key option being considered. The next stage will be open to consultation by the public, local interest groups, local Councillors and stakeholders including Transport Scotland."

Eugene Clarke, Chair of LMRC said: "We very much welcomed the early opportunity to meet with the Council and wish to thank them for their continued support.

"We’ll now be consulting on the main options with the community on 9 and 10 October and I really want to encourage as many people as possible to take part in the consultation and give us your views."
