Coronavirus: rise in Fife cases 'not solely down to hospital and care home clusters'

The Scottish Government says a rise in coronavirus cases in Fife cannot be put solely down to outbreaks that have been reported at health and care facilities in the region.

Nicola Sturgeon announced yesterday that the region is moving into level three restrictions from Friday.

This month there have been outbreaks at a care home and a hospital ward, accounting for more than 60 cases between them, along with a small number of cases among students - some of which may have come from outwith the area.

But Ms Sturgeon, and the national clinical director Professor Jason Leitch, say where there are clusters of cases, there is usually some spread into the community.

They were responding to a question from Kingdom FM at the daily briefing earlier - watch the video above.

It comes as three new deaths have been registered in Fife, among 64 across Scotland.

The Kingdom had 69 positive tests yesterday.
