Community support services across Fife to stop

Community support services and day services for elderly people across the Kingdom will close down at 5pm on Friday.

Fife Health and Social Care Partnership said planned respite and short break provision for vulnerable people, and their carers, will also cease for all but the most urgent cases.

Fife Council’s health and social care spokesperson David Graham said he had been assured the approach was the safest one for the region’s most vulnerable people.

“It’s obviously a sad time when we need to temporarily close services,” he said.

“However, I’ve received assurances from the service that following national guidance from the Government that this was the safest way forward for our most vulnerable people.

“The service will continue to complete risk assessments to ensure those most at risk continue to receive contact from the social work service in these very challenge times for us all.”

This decision follows the ban on visitors attending local authority care homes across the Kingdom.

Eight care homes have stopped allowing non-essential visits to protect residents from infection.
