Clutha Tragedy: One Year On

Glasgow will pause today for a special memorial service to remember the Clutha victims.

One year ago, a Police Scotland helicopter crashed into the pub, killing ten people.

Immediately after the accident, The Clutha Trust was established to help raise money to bridge the gap between poverty and the arts.

Glenrothes musician Shona Aitken had been due to perform at the Clutha the afternoon after the tragedy:

The Secretary of State for Scotland Alistair Carmichael said Scotland’s thoughts will be with all those who lost family or friends in the tragedy.

He said: “In the aftermath of the crash we saw remarkable stories of courage and selflessness from the professionalism and courage of our emergency services, to members of public who – without hesitation – put themselves forward to help in any way they could.

"The response of the people in such adversity highlighted the courage and character which personifies Glasgow as city.  Today – as we did one year ago - we stand beside all those who mourn their loss.”
