Charity Calls For 'Volunteer Heroes'

Fifers are being urged to give up their time to help reach out to children across the Kingdom.

NSPCC Scotland needs volunteers to go into schools and teach pupils about abuse and how they can stay stafe.

The Childline Schools Service uses assemblies and workshops to help children recognise where they might need help and tells them how to access support.

10,000 people already give up their time to work for Childline or raise funds for it.

ChildLine Schools Service manager for Scotland, Shaun Friel, said; “Our volunteers really are heroes to us and more importantly to the children that we work to protect, and so we wanted to celebrate them and the fantastic things that they do to make our work with vulnerable children possible. The support of volunteers is vital for the ChildLine Schools Service and we would like to appeal to local people to get in touch with us to find out more.

“Even if you’re not able to become a Schools Service volunteer, but you can spare maybe an hour a month, or even just one day to help the NSPCC, we would love to hear from you. We have numerous volunteering opportunities ranging from helping at a collection in your local shopping centre, to taking part in one of our exciting events – however you can help, please do get in touch.”

Childline founder Esther Rantzen has also added her voice to the appeal:
