Changes To Fife Trains During The Open

Commuters are advised to check with Scotrail for potential changes during the golf major.

Train passengers across the Kingdom will be affected by altered services and busier trains this month due to The Open.

The 144th Open will be held at St Andrews between Sunday 12th and Sunday 19th July.

To get spectators to the event, ScotRail is running an altered service between 15-19 July so more trains call at Leuchars, the closest station to the event, but this will result in some trains being busier than normal.

Bus services will also be in operation on some routes and travellers are advised to check the Scotrail website for details.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: "We want to give our customers a heads up about the alterations and that some trains will be busier with golf fans. Passengers are encouraged to check our website or the ScotRail app to see if their service is affected."

Queuing systems will be in place at key stations, including Edinburgh Waverley, for spectators and extra staff will be on hand to assist customers.

Altered services:
- Most Edinburgh - Perth trains will be diverted to terminate/start at Dundee, calling at Leuchars.  Replacement buses will run between Ladybank and Perth on affected services.

-Some Fife services to/from Glenrothes with Thornton, will also be diverted to terminate/start at Dundee, with replacements buses between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes with Thornton

-Due to extra carriages being added, some trains will be too long for platforms at Portlethen, Carnoustie, Broughty Ferry and Springfield, and will not be able to call there.  Buses will run instead to allow connections with train services.
