CBI Formally Backs 'Better Together' Campaign

The Confederation of British Industry has registered with the Electoral Commission ahead of the referendum.

One of the UK's main business groups has come out against Scottish independence.

The Confederation of British Industry says it's formally backing the 'Better Together' campaign. Last month, a report by the CBI claimed there was 'no credible' economic plan for Scotland going it alone in the event of a 'yes' vote in September's referendum.

A spokesman for the body said: "The CBI has clearly stated its position in the Scottish referendum debate, that Scotland and the rest of the UK are stronger together as part of the union. We have registered this with the Electoral Commission in accordance with the law."

Today's announcement means the CBI can spend up to £150, 000 on campaigning, but there are claims the body doesn't have the full backing of it's members, and that some could leave.

We've been speaking to local businessman Daniel Johnston for his views.
