Cash To Help Young People In Fife Into Work

The Scottish Government allocates almost half a million pounds to Fife Council to help encourage employment.

Almost half a million pounds is being given to Fife council to help young people into work.

The funding comes as it's revealed existing support for school leavers has led to 92% of them going into jobs of further education.

The allocation of £437,913 comes from the Scottish Government to support our young people in moving to employment.

Over the last two years Fife Council say they've made significant investment in the area which has led to it being recognised as one of only 4 Wood Pathfinder Councils in Scotland.

The money will support these initiatives and will be used to further support schools and partner organisations in planning programmes of learning which are devoted to helping young people improve their skills for work and in planning effective pathways to the workplace.

Councillor Lesley Laird said of the announcement, "I am pleased to welcome the news of this additional funding and welcome the opportunity it gives us to apply it within our local circumstances.

The funding will help Fife build on its existing programmes. Recent successes have seen an improving position in the number of people in employment in Fife. We are keen to push on with the improvement in this year's positive destination figures and the numbers of young people achieving positive destinations when they leave school. This year we've seen a 2.7% improvement and we are continually striving to ensure even better outcomes for more of Fife's young people.

This is part of our overall planning to help all our young people achieve success. We also recognise that the business community has a key role to play and recognise that Fife businesses need to grow. This funding will support work we are doing to help our employers have confidence, invest in our young people and to create opportunities for them."
