Cash Boost For Green Space

Councillors have agreed to invest in children and young people in Levenmouth.

Members of Levenmouth Area Committee have backed plans to invest more than £100,000 in children and young people in the area.

Projects to improve playparks and provide young people with activities over the summer have been welcomed and approved.

Cllr Tom Adams chair of the Levenmouth Area Committee said:

"In total we'll have invested £375,000 in three childrens play areas by April 2015. We are also providing a programme of activities over the summer for young people in the local area. I'm delighted to see this investment in providing fun places for children to get outside and play. It is vital for their health and development. Like wise providing lots of social and educational activities for young people over the summer is important for broadening their experiences and building their confidence. These projects are making a real difference to the well being of children and families in our local area."

Last year £90,000 was spent on improving the Broom in Leven and almost £100,000 is going to be spent on the second phase of the playpark development this year.

Taylor Street, Methil was refurbished last year with £90,000 spent on removing old equipment and installing new equipment for toddlers. This year £50,000 will be spent on installing equipment for older children.

In response to calls from local residents for a playpark closer to their homes a new play park at the Barony in East Wemyss will be installed. The proposal will see £50,000 spent on play equipment and will be located beside the allotments and screen planting.

The committee also approved £12,000 to be spent on youthwork over the summer months. The Youth Strategy Group made up of Education and Community

Learning and Development services, Clued Up, Active Schools, Community Use and the Health Improvement Team have produced a detailed programme of activities. This is a significant investment in youthwork in the Levenmouth Area and is designed to meet the needs of young people in the local area.
