Call To Review School Uniform Costs

Fife teachers are calling for councils to investigate the financial impact of school dress codes on Scottish families.

Local members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) have put forward a motion at the union's Annual General Meeting today, which is looking to secure backing for councils "to investigate and report on the financial impact of school dress codes on Scottish families."

 

The call comes after a report was published in England by the Children's Society warning that uniform costs are dividing children into "haves and have nots".

Parents in households earning more than £16,010 a year no longer receive help paying for their children's school clothes, following changes to working tax credits.

Parts of Levenmouth, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Wst Fife have some of the highest concentrations of poverty in Scotland
