Bumper Summer For Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh airport has seen a record number of passengers last month

Over one million passengers travelled through Edinburgh Airport last month, making it the busiest  August on record for the airport and its fourth million plus passenger month in a row.

A total of 1,158,794 people arrived and departed Edinburgh Airport in August, an increase of 8.7% on August 2014.

August saw 467,120 domestic passengers travel through the airport – a 8.9% increase on 2014 – thanks to the increased services to London with Ryanair and Flybe and easyJet’s Belfast service.

International passenger numbers saw an 8.5% boost on the same period last year with a total of 691,674 passengers travelling through the airport.

Increased services to Dublin, with easyJet helped boost the number of international passengers travelling, as did the increased flights to Dublin, Rome and Barcelona with Ryanair.

Long-haul routes to New York JFK with American Airlines, services to Doha with Qatar Airways Etihad Airways’ service to Abu Dhabi all contributed to the strong growth.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: “This record breaking performance in August is a real indicator of the growing success of both Scotland and Edinburgh.

"To see four million passenger months in a row, given it was only 2 years ago that we broke the million mark, is remarkable.

"The team at Edinburgh Airport is committed to providing the infrastructure and facilities to enable and cope with the growth in those that want to visit our country and those Scots that wish to travel whether for leisure or business. We're focussed on planning for the year ahead and staying ahead of the passenger demand."
