Buckhaven Volunteers Scoop Top Prize

A volunteer group in Fife has won £1000 for its green initiative to improve the local area - by planting fruit trees.

CLEAR, based in Buckhaven, has won a Scotland-wide competition for the best green community idea and claimed top prize to help bring their idea to life.

It was organised by the WWF in partnership with the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The 20 volunteers are using the prize money to plant fruit-bearing trees along public cycle and walkways throughout the historic town.

Allen Armstrong is the group's secretary - he says they're just happy to do something positive for the local community.
