A body has been found in the search for a teen who went missing at Prestonhill Quarry.

Police Scotland responded, along with other members of the emergency services, to the site in Inverkeithing at around 9.20pm last night following reports of an 18-year-old in the water.

Officers are working to establish the man's identity and to determine the full circumstances surrounding the death.

The teenager has been named online and locally as John McKay, from Kirkcaldy.

It is the second tragedy at the disused site. In August 2014, Cameron Lancaster, from Burntisland, died after jumping into the quarry as part of an Ice Bucket Challenge.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Fife conducting search activity at the Prestonhill Quarry have today recovered a man’s body.

"Officers responded along with other emergency services to the site in Inverkeithing since around 9.20pm yesterda following reports of an 18-year-old within the water.

"Inquiries are ongoing to confirm the man’s identity and to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident."

A petition has been set up calling for the quarry to be filled in.
