Body Confirmed As Missing Leuchars Woman

Maureen left Pitcairn Park on Sunday afternoon

Police have confirmed a body found on Tentsmuir beach this morning is that of Maureen Bannister.

The 43 year old from Leuchars went missing on Sunday afternoon.

The death's being treated as unexplained pending further enquiries.

It was believed that she left an address on Pitcairn Park on the afternoon of Sunday 13 December in a Ford Focus with her black/grey coloured cross-breed Yorkshire Terrier, and travelled to Tentsmuir Forest.

Officers are asking anyone who may have seen Maureen since this time, and who can assist with the ongoing investigation, to come forward.

She was described as around 5'4" tall, with a slim build and long dark hair. At the time she was reported missing it was believed that she was wearing navy Wellington boots, and a navy thigh length jacket with a cream lined hood.

Sergeant Gary Combe said: “Our sincere condolences go to Maureen’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“We’re working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Maureen’s death and are asking anyone who may have seen her since Sunday afternoon to get in touch.”
