Bid To End Poverty In Fife

Nearly a quarter of all children in Fife are recognised as living in poverty

Charities and businesses in Fife want information from anyone who feels they could help tackle poverty.

The Fairer Fife commission was set up by Fife council to tackle inequalities across the kingdom. It is made up of charities and businesses who want to take practical action. Unemployment, zero hours contracts and lack of knowledge about benefits are all contributing to widespread poverty.

Chair of the Commission is Chief Executive of the Carnegie UK Trust Martyn Evans. He said:

“The views and evidence we receive from you will be analysed and fed into our work programme. Our final findings and recommendations will also take account of a range of other contributions. Your views could make a real difference so please help us by getting involved."

Fife Council Leader David Ross said:

“Poverty is ruining lives in Fife and the costs of dealing with poverty fall on us all. That’s why we set up the Fairer Fife Commission and I hope as many people as possible will contribute to the work of the Commission so we can find practical ways of addressing poverty across the Kingdom.”

As well as gathering evidence over the coming months, the Commission is having themed meetings between now and November. The next meeting in June will focus on "Place" and "Being Well".
