Parents are being urged to protect their kids as temperatures soar in the Kingdom.

Health professionals say its essential to put on sunscreen, even in Scotland.

Temperatures will peak at 25°C today with warm sunshine well into the evening. UV rays, which cause sunburn, are at their most potent between 11am and 3pm.

Malignant melanoma incident rates rose by 30percent between 2003 and 2013, according to the latest cancer statistics from ISD Scotland.

The rate for men increased by 38% compared to 22% for women, while in 2013 alone there were 1,172 diagnoses of melanoma, making it the sixth most common cancer in Scotland.
