Back To The 1600s At Aberdour Castle

The event at Aberdour Castle hopes to pull in extra visitors to Fife

A slice of 17th century life is on offer at Aberdour castle this weekend - just one of the events trying to pull more visitors into the Kingdom.

Signalling the start of the summer tourism season, the Fife monument is holding an exhibition on the lives of soldiers under the reign of Charles I in the 1600s. Included will be a look at what they ate, as 2015 is VisitScotland's Year of Food and Drink.

Raising Fife for the Covenant will take place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May at Aberdour Castle and Gardens from 12pm to 4pm, and is included in the price of admission. This event is free for Historic Scotland Members.

Alison Stalker, Historic Scotland Events and Filming Manager, said:

"Raising Fife for the Covenant features a varied programme from our costumed performers that will engage visitors of all ages. As one of the oldest stone castles in Scotland, troops fighting in the nearby Battle of Inverkeithing in 1651 may well have passed by Aberdour."

"This event will help bring that period of history to life over 350 years later."
