Appeal After Train Station Assault

An 18-year-old man has been assaulted at a train station in Edinburgh.

The teenager was on the 21.22 Cowdenbeath to Waverley service with three friends on Friday night, it's believed a large group of men got on at Dunfermline and exchanged words with another group who had spoken to the 18 year old's group.

The alleged victim was punched when he got off the train just after 10pm, and was taken to hospital for a cut to his eye.

Transport Police have called it a "cowardly attack" and are appealing for witnesses.

The suspect is described as being aged in his early to mid 20’s, about 6 ft in height, slim build and with dark hair brushed to the side. He was wearing a cream jumper, shirt, tie, grey dress trousers and dark shoes and was carrying a large wallet.

Officers say there are no CCTV stills or footage available to release at this time.

Detective Constable Paul Farquhar, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, said:

“This can only be described as a cowardly attack and there were others travelling on the train who would have witnessed the assault.

"I am urging anyone who has information which can help identify the man responsible to get in touch with BTP as a matter of urgency.”
