APD Abolished For Kids

Family holidays should be cheaper from today with air passenger duty scrapped for children under 12.

The tax starts at £13 for short European journeys but can be as high as £97 for long haul flights.

It means long haul routes to countries like the USA and Australia will prove cheaper for families.

Some airlines aren't automatically refunding the tax on flights already booked but families can make a claim to get the money back.

Edinburgh Airport's Chief Executive Gordon Dewar says it's a step in the right direction but the process isn't quite complete:
