'Anti-Bedroom Tax Housing' Underway

A multi-million pound housing development's being built in Dunfermline to combat the bedroom tax.

The £3.4million project in Dunfermline's Abbeyview is part funded by Fife Council.

Around 28 energy efficient one and two bedroom flats are to be built, along with five cottages

Fife Housing Group Chief Executive Nicki Donaldson said they have a responsibility to listen to tenants and the wider community and provide the kind of homes people need.

He said: “We have focused on building family homes for the past 10 years. However, a number of factors, including the ‘bedroom tax’, have increased demand for smaller properties to avoid single people and couples without children being penalised for having extra rooms.

“These one and two bedroomed flats will complement the family homes we are also building as part of the project, giving our tenants the opportunity of high-quality and energy-efficient accommodation without leaving them out of pocket.”

The Islay Road development is the final stage of the £17.5million, 170 home Abbeyview Regeneration project first launched in 2000.
