Another Woman Mugged In Dunfermline

Police in Fife are investigating following a third bag snatch in the Dunfermline area within a week.

This incident occurred in Bendachin Drive at around 10.20pm on Tuesday, when a 55-year-old woman was walking alone before an unknown man approached her from behind.

He pushed her to the ground and stole her handbag, before running towards Daviot Road.

The suspect is described as a white man, between 20 and 30 years old. He has a medium build with mousy brown hair. He was wearing a two-tone blue coloured top.

It's the third similar theft in the last week in the town.

The first incident happened last Wednesday (4th March) when a 33-year-old woman was attacked in Whitefield Road, the second incident occurred on Sunday when a 27-year-old woman was also attacked, this time in Woodmill Road.

In all cases, the attacks were successful and the women's bags were stolen.

Police are becoming increasingly concerned about the volume of incidents and are appealing to the public for information.

Officers will be conducting high visibility patrols over the coming days and door-to-door enquiries will be conducted.

The suspect has so far targeted lone woman in the Dunfermline area. Officers are advising any women walking alone at night to be vigilant and to be aware of their surroundings.

Detective Sergeant Karen Muirhead said: “This is the third robbery within the past week and we are taking this matter extremely seriously.

“We are appealing to speak to any person who may have seen this man in the area last night at around 10pm, as it is possible he has been in the area for some time prior to the incident taking place.

“We have also heightened police patrols in the area and door-to-door enquires will be conducted.

“This targeting of woman is completely unacceptable.  We will use our full resources pursue this man and bring him to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
