Allotment Nets Fife Therapist Award Nomination

David Sanders has been nominated for a Scottish Health Award

An occupational therapist who came up with the idea for an allotment for mental health patients in Fife has been nominated for a prestigious award.

David Sanders, who is based at the Queen Margaret hospital in Dunfermline, is part of the West FIfe community outreach team. He came up with the idea for the "Kelty Haven", which provides therapy through gardening.

David says says the facility has multiple benefits:

NHS Fife Chief Executive, Paul Hawkins, said: "I am delighted that David is being recognised for his contribution to Occupational Therapy as part of the West Fife Community Outreach Team and I wish him the best of luck on the night.

"His dedication to the development of Kelty Haven is a fantastic example of the innovative work done by our staff to support people with poor mental health.  The number of individuals and groups utilising Kelty Haven shows the difference it can make to those who may often experience marginalisation, providing a platform for them to participate within a mainstream community setting."

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Edinburgh in November 2015.
