Academic Pay Gap 'Still A Problem', Say NUS

Women academics are still paid less than their male counterparts

Woman academics still earn on average £6000 less than their male counterparts, according to a student body.

The National Union of Students Scotland hold their woman's conference this weekend, they are concerned that not enough is being done to close the pay gap.

NUS Scotland's Woman Officer Vonnie Sandlan said:

"We have evidence that shows that the pay gap is an issue horizontally and vertically.

"What that means is, women coming into a position that's the same as a male colleague will be paid less from the off, and as they progress and are promoted the pay increases that women see will be percentages less than men."

The union is pushing for Holyrood to take action, saying that women "too often aren't listened to".
