£1million Spent on Kirkcaldy High Street

Phase 3 of Improvement Works Begin

The final stage of Kickcaldy's facelift begins next week.

Improvement works to the West End of the High Street will see around £1 million spent on footpaths, road surfaces, parking and street lighting.

This is the third and final stage of investment in the town centre, the first stage began back in 2007 and included a new pedestrianised area.

Contractors will arrive on site from Monday 4 January with works beginning on the 11th.

During the works there will no access to Glassworks B car park, some buses will be diverted and bus stops moved.  Access for the emergency services will be maintained as will access for pedestrians and to businesses and properties.

Councillor Pat Callaghan, Executive Spokesperson for Environment and Transportation said:

"It’s great to see work starting on this final phase of Kirkcaldy High Street. We’ve been able to give the businesses a clear run up to Christmas, due to the lead in times for materials. Now that everything is in place, we plan to complete these works in summer 2016.

"Investing in our town centres remains a top priority for Fife Council. We hope these improvements, along with the reduced parking charges, will encourage more people to visit Kirkcaldy High Street, benefiting everyone in the town centre."
