1-in-4 'Not Taking Advantage' Of Cancer Support

Dr Bob Grant is walking from Falkirk to Dundee

Not enough people know about the services available to cancer patients and their friends and family.

Centres offering free support and advice to cancer patients and their family and friends are only being used by 1 in 4 eligable people. Maggie's offer support and advice at 7 centres in Scotland, including one next to the Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy. An eighth centre is being built near Falkirk.

Doctor Bob Grant is walking from Falkirk to Dundee, through Fife, to raise money for the charity. He was first diagnosed with cancer as a teenager, just weeks after he lost his best friend to the disease.  He decided to have his leg amputated in 2002 after living for years with pain and infection. This is his fourth walk for Maggie's, and his longest at 117 miles.

On the final day of his walk, Dr Bob will be joined by up to 100 riders from the Harley Davidson Dunedin Chapter.

He told Kingdom FM News how important the fundraising attempts are.
