KIRKCALDY’S NEWCRAIGS CHURCH TO RUN A YOU TUBE HOLIDAY CLUB

A Kirkcaldy church is offering the chance for children to go ‘virtual backpacking’ this summer – all without leaving their own house during the present Covid-19 travel restrictions!

Newcraigs Church, in Kirkcaldy’s Forres Drive, is running a free on-line Backpackers Holiday Club for the town’s primary aged children who are usually invited to its annual week-long summer event. This will run on You Tube from 10.30am each morning, from Monday 3rd until Friday 7th August, with the added bonus of open viewing for children no matter the location!

During the 45 minute programme, viewers will start with a Joe Wicks style warm up before enjoying a mix of action sing-alongs, drama, interviews, Bible-based stories and even craft demonstrations which you can join in with at home (just like Blue Peter!). Those children who have been to the holiday club and other Newcraigs’ children’s clubs before might even see some faces they recognise amongst the presenters.

Pre-registration is encouraged before Monday 27th July to give organisers time to post out welcome packs including travel passes and art materials for the week’s craft activities.

The five day event is based on Scripture Union’s Backpackers Holiday Club resource, which takes children on virtual plane, train, bus and boat adventures around several European cities whilst looking at Jesus’s arrival in Jerusalem and the events of his last week on earth.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Newcraigs Church’s Schools and Children’s Worker Wendy Slavin says, “Even if travelling abroad is difficult this year, there is still a lot to do with Backpackers!

With the Covid-19 outbreak we are missing the children who usually come to our church activities; many of whom I see in the local primary schools. We thought that we could still provide a Holiday Club which they could enjoy and engage in. What’s more, since it’s scheduled for the last week of the school holidays parents and carers can take a well-earned break whilst the children are tuned in!”.
