Universal credit 'in absolute chaos' warns Fife councillor

Calls are continuing for the roll out of universal credit to be halted over concerns about delayed payments.

It comes as campaigners warn anyone making a new claim for the benefit right now will not see any money until after Christmas.

That is because there is a five week wait for new claimants and those moving from other benefits on to the new system.

Delays in payments for people moving to the new system has been blamed for a 300% increase in foodbank use in parts of Fife.

Councillor Judy Hamilton is the convener of Fife's housing committee, and says the council is dealing with a million pounds in rent arrears:
